In September 1984, Kathy Frey entered the University of Wisconsin-Madison (US) as a Ph.D. candidate majoring in Language and Literature. She began working with ESL students after starting the Ph.D. curriculum and continued to help them improve their academic writing after receiving her Ph.D. Her career focused on editing her ESL clients’ research articles, white papers, books, and proposals. It has been more than 30 years since those first efforts assisting ESL students and professors become accurate and accomplished academic writers. She never stopped, and her name has become familiar to hundreds of scholars worldwide. In 1991, Dr. Frey began building a team of editors to continue helping ESL authors improve their English writing. This team has provided excellent service for scholars representing more than 60 countries. To date, the number of articles edited by this team is over 20,000. Dr. Frey considers a scientific article to be more like art in that it takes an innovative idea, which is the beginning of the masterpiece and develops it into something that is beneficial and beautiful once all of the years of research and investment are ready for view in a peer-reviewed journal. Unfortunately, some articles on international research have been rejected because of poor English language. AiMi’s goal is to make each article more "clear and logical." The joy of this is in helping scholars add the finishing touches to their papers describing their work so all their peers can benefit from the new knowledge.

2018 was a significant year as Dr. Frey decided to provide quality AiMi academic editing services to a wide range of Chinese scholars. Due to the pursuit of detail and perfection, she named the company AiMi Academic Services. The name of AiMi was inspired by Ångstrom (Å), which is one ten-billionth of a meter or 0.1 nanometer. Like scientists seeking to measure the smallest wavelength or interatomic distance, AiMI is patterning their approach to accommodate those who seek to understand the most finite aspects of their discipline.
